RD 8/2019
Mandatory clock-in in Spain
Mandatory does not mean “if they inspect you”. It means the record has to exist every day, for the whole workforce. A spreadsheet will not protect you if it is not reliable or exportable.

The essentials
01
Penalty
Serious offence. This site cites the €751 to €7,500 range per workplace, plus possible overtime claims. The amount is set in the file.
02
Next step
Read the working-time guide or request a Nexo demo and we will prepare a proposal.
Required by law
Time tracking isn't optional.
Since 2019, every company in Spain must record its staff's daily working hours. Doing it poorly exposes you to penalties; doing it right is simple with the right tool.
01
Mandatory since 2019
Spain's Royal Decree-law 8/2019 requires recording the daily start and end of every worker's shift, full- or part-time.
02
Inspectors can fine you
Failing to keep a time record is a serious offence: fines range from €751 to €7,500 per workplace, plus potential overtime claims.
03
Kept for 4 years
Records must be stored for 4 years and made available to staff, their legal representatives and the Labour Inspectorate.
04
A spreadsheet won't protect you
The record has to be reliable. Nexo stores each punch as an immutable event and seals the day. Corrections are audited. A spreadsheet does not give that evidence.
Nexo leaves a CSV or PDF export ready to show. Compliance remains the company's.
